Services at Village

Home is where our stories live.

Darl has cherished her SW Portland home for 46 years; Byron has moved 33 times in his lifetime. Both share the same wish: to stay rooted where they are. They’re not alone. Studies show that nearly 90% of U.S. seniors want to remain in their homes for as long as possible. With the support of a Village, that dream becomes reality.

At River West Village, our volunteers step in to do the kinds of tasks friends, neighbors, and family might help with. Sometimes it’s something small, like carrying laundry down steep basement steps, changing a smoke alarm battery, or raking leaves to keep walkways clear. But those small acts make a big difference in helping members live safely, comfortably, and independently.

At River West Village, our services are more than practical help. They’re acts of care that make it possible to live safely, comfortably, and joyfully in your own home. With neighbors lending a hand and friendships growing along the way, you’ll find both support and connection. We’re here to ensure you can thrive right where you belong.

Neighbors Helping Neighbors.

Our services grow from neighbors helping neighbors, so availability may vary from time to time. If you need a hand, simply reach out and let us know what would be most helpful. We’ll listen, explore what’s possible, and do our best to connect you with a caring volunteer when support is available.

Our services are designed to make everyday life easier, safer, and more enjoyable:

  • Light Housekeeping: Occasional help with tidying, dusting, or simple chores. A little assistance can make your home feel lighter, safer, and easier to manage.
  • Yard & Garden Care: Light weeding, raking, or watering to keep your outdoor spaces welcoming. Volunteers can help maintain the beauty of your home without the strain.
  • Routine Maintenance: Small fixes and upkeep - tightening loose screws, replacing a lightbulb, checking a smoke detector—the kinds of tasks that keep your home running smoothly.
  • Item Repair: Assistance with minor household repairs, from gluing a broken chair leg to troubleshooting a sticky drawer. When something small breaks, we may be able to help make it whole again.
  • Sewing & Mending: Simple fixes for clothing or household fabrics. A missing button or torn seam shouldn’t keep a favorite item out of use.
  • Errands: Help with shopping, picking up prescriptions, mailing packages, or other everyday tasks that keep life moving.
  • Tech Assistance: Guidance with laptops, smartphones, tablets, or smart home devices. Whether you're learning something new or troubleshooting a glitch, we can help keep you connected and confident.
  • Transportation: Rides to appointments, shopping trips, social gatherings, or community events. Safe, friendly transportation helps you stay active and engaged.
  • Home Check‑Ins: Peace of mind while you’re away. Volunteers can stop by to water plants, bring in mail, or make sure everything looks secure. And if you ever want a friendly check‑in, we’re happy to stop by and say hello.

This is what neighbors do: we help, we connect, and we make sure no one has to navigate life alone.
